Overview and Eligibility
The program, launched on 26 February 2018, permits foreign investors to acquire Jordanian nationality upon meeting stated investment and procedural conditions. Family inclusion covers spouse and children (and parents in specified circumstances); applicants must reside in Jordan for at least one month prior to grant; persons holding shares received from another investor who acquired citizenship by those shares are excluded; the scheme limits admissions to 500 investors per year and subjects criteria to six-month reviews.
Investment Options and Requirements
Citizenship may be obtained via specified investment channels: purchasing treasury bonds of at least USD 1,000,000 held for six years; acquiring shares in Jordanian companies with a minimum of USD 1,500,000 held for three years and linked to creating or supporting at least 10 Jordanian jobs; establishing new productive projects with minimum investments of USD 1,500,000 outside Amman and USD 1,000,000 within Amman, requiring creation/support of 20 jobs; or investing in existing productive projects starting at USD 750,000 outside Amman and USD 1,000,000 within Amman. Investments above USD 3,000,000 trigger broader family inclusion as described in the program rules.
Procedures, Timing and Confidentiality
The application cycle is typically estimated at about three months from submission to decision; upon approval the passport may be issued within a few days. All stages of processing and investment details are treated as confidential by the competent authorities, and applicants should expect to provide supporting documentation evidencing financial compliance and identity.
Bank Transfers and Practical Account Rules
Once a deposit is approved the funds are transferred directly from the beneficiary’s account to the Central Bank of Jordan. Investors may open multiple bank accounts, and transfers from a company account wholly owned by the applicant are permissible provided they satisfy the program’s documentary and eligibility requirements.
